Troubleshoot Minecraft Lag

Lag can be either Server sided or Client sided.

Server sided lag is often caused by low server tps while client sided lag is caused by low client fps.
You can check the Server TPS by running the tps command and Client FPS by pressing F3.

In general, we recommend using Paper with some plugins like ClearLagg and Chunky.

Reasons for Server lag/ low tps can be:

  • Too many Plugins/ Mods
  • Not enough Resources (RAM or CPU)
  • Misconfigured server settings

Reasons for Client lag/ low tps can be:

  • Too many Entities rendered/ loaded
  • Misconfigured client settings
  • Too far away from server location (High Ping)

Possible fixes for Server lag:

Possible fixes for Client lag:

  • Lower view distance
  • Lower graphic settings
  • Use Optifine
